چکیده

Justifications for actions can typically be critiqued on a number of grounds. Critiques of such justifications can be structured using an argumentation scheme for practical reasoning and associated critical questions. The form that the critiques can take in a computational system, however, depends crucially on the semantic underpinnings of the scheme. We describe a semantic model which, we argue, can support a rich and systematic critique of justifications for actions presented using a argumentation scheme specifically designed to support practical reasoning. The approach has been realised as a Prolog program, and the paper is illustrated by a running example and fragments of the code for the application.

Model Based Critique of Policy Proposals

Citizens may engage with policy issues both to critique official justifications, and to make their own proposals and receive reasons why these are not favoured. Either direction of use can be supported by argumentation schemes based on formal models, which can be used to verify and generate arguments, assimilate objections etc. Previously we have explored the citizen critiquing a justification ...

Model of Process Critique of Contemporary Residential Works Based on the components: "Mission, Objectives, Functional Needs and Concepts

The formation of a designer's personality and the acquisition of design skills are dependent on specific components and variables, such as observation and sampling, analysis and handling of samples, direct involvement and impregnation with the design problem. Architectural critique and analysis of the works of the past and successful and unsuccessful examples have always played a key role in ar...

Critique of Luxenberg's Aramaic-Syriac reading of verse 24 of Maryam

Verses 17 to 36 of chapter Maryam state that Hazrat Maryam’s pregnancy made her feel ashamed to face her people. Thus, she took refuge in a distant place to bear the childbirth pain, deliver her child, and avoid facing her people. But God, the almighty, comforted her by giving the good news that the spring will flow at her feet and the palm tree will drop its dates upon her. But apparently the ...

Foundations of Bayesianism A Note on Foundations of Bayesianism

We discuss the justifications of Bayesianism by Cox and Jaynes, and relate them to a recent critique by Halpern(JAIR, vol 10(1999), pp 67–85). We show that a problem with Halperns example is that a finite and natural refinement of the model leads to inconsistencies, and that the same is the case with every model in which rescalability to probability cannot be done. We also discuss other problem...

A Case-Study Critique and Principled Alternatives for Equilibrium-Seeking Congestion Control Protocols

Performance-oriented Congestion Control (PCC) [3] is a recent congestion-control architecture in which each sender uses their local observation of network performance to update their actions. It has been experimentally shown to yield fast and fair performance in a variety of network scenarios [2]. In this paper, we are concerned with the mathematical and model-based underpinnings of PCC, specif...
